Riverside is proud of its diversity and the perspective that comes from inclusion of its constituents in our community’s economic, social, and political decision-making. Many of the concerns faced by the greater Riverside area can only be solved with the coordinated energy and ideals of all of the people. The Blueprint for Volunteer Diversity Leadership Development Program helps prepare the people in the program for the experiences they will have after graduation from the program.

The Blueprint for Volunteer Diversity Leadership Development Program identifies, trains and supports members of ethnic, racial and other underrepresented groups to become effective, knowledgeable members of nonprofit boards and public-sector commissions. The 8 week training program concludes with a graduation and also prepares organizations to successfully involve these newly trained volunteers.

Founded in 1995 by Mayor Ronald Loveridge, City of Riverside, Telesis Foundation, and United Way of the Inland Valleys, this year’s Blueprint for Volunteer Diversity Leadership Development Program was sponsored by Bank of America Foundation, Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, Kiwanis Club of Uptown Riverside, Riverside County’s Credit Union and The Gas Company. Riverside’s Mayor Loveridge said, “Part of Riverside’s greatness is the diversity of its citizens. Our commitment must be to provide the opportunity for all citizens to be involved with the governance of their community.”

“I want to live in a community where people see a need, they roll up their sleeves, they get involved, and they make a difference” said Viola Lindsey, Co-Chair and graduate of the first Blueprint for Volunteer Diversity Leadership Development Program Class of 1995.
The 2002 Blueprint for Volunteer Diversity Leadership Development Program Class of 21 graduates were: John Aguilar, Jr., Delores Armour, Reverend James Baylark, Kimberly Bracy, Naomi Bradley, Blanche M. Cook, Monique Flaherty, Bernie Gutierrez, Andrea Head, Juan Heredia, Burma Lee Manns, Philip Nava, Ursula Peine, Francisco Robledo, Abraham Schwartz, Muriel Schwartz, Mona Lisa Stallworth, Roxanna Starkey, Michelle Wafer, Fanchon “Candi” Walker and Cheryl Willams. These members are now prepared and available to serve on local boards and commissions in their respective communities of Riverside, Moreno Valley, Corona and Perris.
