The Needs Assessment and Planning
Committee is convened every three years and is chaired by
a member of United Way of the Inland Valleys Board of Directors.
The committee consists of a diverse
group of volunteers representing government, education, the
non-profit sector, and representatives of the four other United
Ways in Riverside County and the community at large. A coordinator,
who is hired by and works at UWIV, conducts the yearlong project,
which encompasses the entire County of Riverside.
The funding for the project is
provided by sponsors that are either required to assess their
own service delivery systems or have a need for specific information
to shape their funding decisions. The 2002 project was being
sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, Corona Regional Medical Center,
The Community Foundation Serving Riverside and San Bernardino
Counties, First Five Riverside and The Press-Enterprise.
The United Way of the Inland Valleys
uses the results of the Needs Assessment to identify and prioritize
regional needs to be used as a roadmap for funding decisions
over the following three years. The final document is published
and distributed throughout Riverside County and is widely
used and respected by government departments, non-profits
and funders.
