GREAT NEIGHBOR AWARDS ANNOUNCED
(Riverside, California)— United Way of the Inland Valleys has selected seventeen recipients for the Fourth Annual Great Neighbor Awards. The Great Neighbor Awards were designed to recognize people who work to better their neighborhood, making it a safe, happy and healthy place to live.

The Great Neighbor Awards winners will be honored on Friday, August 12, 2005 at the Lake Elsinore Diamond. The awards will be presented at 6:00 p.m. prior to the Lake Elsinore Storm game vs. the High Desert Mavericks. The Great Neighbor Awards are sponsored by the San Diego Padres and the Lake Elsinore Storm. The Storm is a Class A affiliate of the Padres.

In the Southwest County area, Linda Hicks was selected for her 30 years of volunteer service, most recently as a certified rape crisis counselor and advocate with the Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center. Thirteen volunteers from the Senior Citizens Service Center of the Temecula/Rancho Area, Inc. were selected, honoring well over 200,000 combined hours of volunteer service over a thirty year period. These recipients are Agnes Armstrong, John Flores, Betty Jean Flowerman, Bertha Gunderson, Audrey Howard, John Karan, Rita Park, Buel Pettit, Betty Rheinhart, Joe Salas, Yvette Thompson. Rose Vaccarino and Mickey Walton.

           Allen Vaughn of Banning was selected for his facilitation of health and safety issues in his neighborhood and his constant looking out for others.
           Jackie Carey-Wilson of Riverside was selected for her volunteer service to the Volunteer Center of Riverside County. She currently serves as the center’s president.
           Jeanie B. Holloway Corral of Lake Elsinore was selected for her extensive volunteer service in her community. She serves on the Lake Elsinore Unified School Board.

United Way of the Inland Valleys supports over 90 programs and services, serving residents of Greater Riverside, Moreno Valley, Temecula, Banning, Beaumont, Cherry Valley, Canyon Lake, Cabazon, Glen Avon, Jurupa, Lake Elsinore, Mira Loma, Murrieta, Pedley, Rubidoux, Wildomar, and Perris.
