LAKE ELSINORE STORM PRESENT UNITED WAY OF THE INLAND VALLEYS’ GREAT NEIGHBORS AWARDS

August 1, 2003 (Riverside, California) The San Diego Padres in conjunction with the Lake Elsinore Storm presented the United Way of the Inland Valleys 2ND Annual Great Neighbor Awards during the pre-game show at the Lake Elsinore Diamond.

Riverside City Councilman Ameal Moore and Diane Sessions, Executive Director of the Economic Development Corporation of Southwest Riverside County and United Way of the Inland Valleys’ Campaign Co-Chairs along with Tracy Beskid from the Lake Elsinore Storm presented the awards.

Local residents enthusiastically nominated United Way of the Inland Valleys Great Neighbor Award recipients for their commitment to making our neighborhoods better places to live. This year’s Great Neighbor Award recipients were Denise Harris, Arnie and Carmen McCulloch, Lenora Hunter, Jackie McNulty, Paul Parsons, and Herb and Suzette Chauers.

Denise Harris, a resident of Moreno Valley, is always willing to help out in the neighborhood.

Denise watches the children, helps elderly neighbors, and makes new neighbors feel welcome.  Roberta Derilo nominated Denise through an ad in Inland Empire Family Magazine.

Arnie and Carmen McCulloch, residents of Murrieta, represent the kind of neighbors everyone wants.  These great neighbors seem to be helping others every weekend.  Alan and Chris McAllister nominated Arnie and Carmen for the Great Neighbor Award.
Lenora Hunter, a resident of Moreno Valley, has earned the title “Grandma of the Neighborhood.”  She helps with the children, counsels the youth, and comforts the elderly.  Lenora is well respected, looked up to, and sincerely loved by her neighbors.  Charles Hopkins nominated Lenora.

Jackie McNulty, a resident of Riverside, spreads acts of kindness in so many ways.  She drives the elderly to the market and doctors appointments, lends a hand to all neighbors, and takes care of the children in the neighborhood.  Carrie Carlile nominated Jackie for the Great Neighbor Award.

Paul Parsons, a resident of Lake Elsinore, is not only a Great Neighbor to his neighbors; he is a Great Neighbor to the community.  Each week, Paul drives from Lake Elsinore to Riverside to the day old bakery to buy bread and goodies.  He generously delivers the food to shut-in’s in Murrieta, Winchester, and Hemet.  Wes Brooks nominated Paul for the Great Neighbor Award.

Herb and Suzette Chauers, residents of Riverside, are truly ‘great neighbors.’ They opened their home to a neighbor who’s home was flooded, watch the neighborhood children, and help out whenever they are needed.  Fonda McGlensy nominated Herb and Suzette for the Great Neighbor Award.

Event sponsors:  San Diego Pardes in conjunction with the Lake Elsinore Storm (presenting sponsor), Inland Empire Family Magazine (media sponsor), Back By Demand in Riverside, Callaway Vineyard & Winery in Temecula Wine Country, Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa in Corona, Harrah’s Rincon Casino & Resort in Valley Center, PGA of Southern California Golf Club at Oak Valley, and Temeku Hills Golf Club in Temecula (gift basket sponsors).  Special thanks to Inland Empire Family Magazine advertisers, Castle Park in Riverside, Fiesta Village Family Fun Park in Colton, Mulligan Family Fun Center in Temecula, and Allure Image Enhancement, Inc. in Upland, for their generous gift basket donations.

The Great Neighbor Awards were designed to recognize people who work to better their neighborhood making it a safe, happy and healthy place to live.  Neighbors in the United Way of the Inland Valleys service area were able to nominate their neighbors to show appreciation and recognize them for being a Great Neighbor.

United Way of the Inland Valleys has been serving Western Riverside County through programs and services provided by local community agencies and organizations since 1931.
