UNITED WAY RAISES A RECORD AMOUNT OF OVER $4.2 MILLION

            March 27, 2003 (Riverside, California) The 2002 United Way of the Inland Valleys campaign ended in triumph Thursday, March 20 with the announcement of a total of $4,207,000 raised in gifts and pledges.  The Top Performance Employee Giving Campaign was awarded to Luxfer Gas Cylinders, Inc. (Riverside), raising $113,000.

Mark Hawkins, CEO of Riverside County's Credit Union, and Eric Solander, Director for Public Affairs of Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, revealed the results to more than 250 employees of labor unions, corporations, government employees, and United Way member agencies gathered at the Campaign Victory Celebration at Harrison Hall at the Lake Perris Fair Grounds.   Last year, the United Way campaign also raised a record $4.1 million.

            Campaign Co-Chairs Hawkins and Solander conveyed deep appreciation for the extra degree of generous support shown by the Western Riverside County community in a difficult year.

"The people, companies and organizations in the Western Riverside area have responded generously, even with a very difficult economy.  Our community should be proud of what they've accomplished and the people they have helped - neighbor to neighbor," said Solander.

In addition to the campaign announcement, Hawkins and Solander thanked many of the volunteers who made the campaign a success. 

Twenty companies and their employees were recognized as the Top 20 Employee Giving Campaigns for this year.  The Top 20 Employee Giving Campaign Awards went to the City of Moreno Valley, City of Riverside, City of Temecula, Costco (Temecula), Costco Dry Goods (Mira Loma), Costco Cold Storage (Mira Loma), Guidant Corporation (Temecula), JC Penney (Moreno Valley), Lowe's of Perris, Luxfer Gas Cylinders, Inc. (Riverside), Metal Containers of Riverside, Milgard Manufacturing, Inc. (Temecula), Nordstrom (Riverside), Pepsi Bottling Group (Riverside), Riverside Community Hospital, Riverside County's Credit Union, SBC/Pacific Bell (Riverside), The Press-Enterprise (Riverside), THORCalifornia (Moreno Valley), and United Parcel Service (Riverside).

The Press-Enterprise and The Gas Company received the Corporate Sponsorship Award. 

Key Employee Giving Campaigns were given to companies who shined during the 2002 Campaign.  The Outstanding Key Employee Giving Campaign was awarded to Gottchalks in Moreno Valley.   Key Campaigns in the Riverside are were awarded to Ahern, Adcock & Devlin, Bourns, Inc., Enterprise Rent-A-Car Leasing, FMC Technologies, Inc., Heyming & Johnson Real Estate, Inland Empire National Bank, JC Penney at Galleria at Tyler, Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, Redwine & Sherrill, Rick Engineering, Riverside County Medical Association, Riverside Employees Credit Union, Riverside Medical Clinic, Roy O. Huffman Roof Company, Specialty Brands Company, Stronghold Engineering, Target Store at Tyler, Walmart at Canyon Springs, and Yeager Skanska Inc.  Key Campaigns in the Perris area were City of Perris and Wal-Mart.  Key Campaigns is the Temecula/Murrieta area were: City of Murrieta, Federal Express (Temecula), Hudson, RCI (Temecula), Mervyns in Temecula, Plant Equipment, Inc. (Temecula), Swenson Advisors LLP (Temecula), Target in Murrieta, and Target in Temecula.   Key Campaigns in the Pass Area were Albertson's in Banning, City of Banning, and Professional Community Management Sun Lakes (Banning).

The Outstanding First Time Campaign was awarded to Macy's West.  First time campaigns were awarded to Anheuser-Busch Inc., Ingram Micro Branch 10, Premier Service Bank, Enchanted Hills Elementary School, Perris Union High School District, SunGlass Hut, Vista De Lago High School, Flowserve Corporation, Lowe's in Murrieta, Merit Companies, Warm Springs Middle School and Villegas Intermediate School.  Murrieta Valley High School District, Murrieta Valley Unified School District, Banning Independent Study, Beaumont Alternative Education Sites Chemawa Middle School, Seneca Elementary School, La Sierra University, and Riverside Unified School District were honored with Education awards.  United Way member agencies that received awards were Alternatives to Domestic Violence, American Red Cross of Riverside County, Boy Scouts of America Inland Empire Council, Rancho Damacitas, YMCA of Riverside City and County, and Youth Service Center.  The Outstanding United Way member agency award went to The Children's Center of Riverside.  Labor Unions honored with awards included United Steel Workers of America, AFL-CIO, Local 6703, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 63, Communication Workers of America, Local 9400, and United Food and Commercial Worker's Union, Local 1167.  Leadership Giving Awards were given to the City of Riverside, Enterprise Rent-A-Car Leasing, and Yeager Skanska Inc.
