January 28, 2003 (Riverside, CA) Jim King,
District Manager of The Gas Company, presented a check to
the youth component of Blueprint for Volunteer Diversity Leadership
Development Program (Blueprint). "The Gas Company is very
pleased with the Blueprint program. We would like to see many
more successful students graduate from the program for years
to come," King said.
Debbi Huffman Guthrie, United Way of the Inland
Valleys Board Chair, Kathleen Gonzales, Blueprint Co-Chair,
and Jenice Haskin, Blueprint Program Coordinator accepted
the check at a United Way of the Inland Valleys Board of
Directors meeting.
The purpose of the Blueprint program is to
establish a pool of skilled volunteers from underrepresented
groups to serve on non-profit boards and public sector commissions.
To date, the Blueprint program has 111 graduates and many
of them are currently serving on boards and commissions in
Riverside and Moreno Valley. The youth component of Blueprint
is designed for high school students in the Riverside, Moreno
Valley, and Perris areas. This is the first year of the youth
program. After the students graduate, a roster is sent to
non profit organizations and the municipalities in Riverside,
Moreno Valley, and Perris where they can recruit the graduates
to serve on commissions and boards.
Blueprint could not be effective in our communities
without the generous sponsorship of The Gas Company and all
of the other sponsors.
