WAY of the INLAND VALLEYS ANNOUNCES SPECIAL GRANTS OF OVER
$110,000 FOR SOUTHWEST COUNTY, PERRIS VALLEY, JURUPA AND THE
PASS AREA
The Board of Directors of United Way of the
Inland Valleys allocated over $110,000 in grants to support
new and expanded programs that address United Way of the Inland
Valleys identified problem needs. Those organizations
receiving seed grant funding address youth at-risk, children,
elder care and abuse, and basic subsistence, which are targeted
areas of need.
CARE CONNEXXUS, INC RECEIVES $25,000 to
support the programs expansion, representing services
for an additional 25 frail elderly adults. The expansion targets
residents in the Jurupa Region. "The elderly population
of Jurupa will benefit directly from this grant. We appreciate
the care, concern, and funding United Way of the Inland Valleys
demonstrates to those who are not able many times to take
care of themselves," said Executive Director Carol Nottley.
FAMILY SERVICE ASSOCIATION RECEIVES $25,000
for the Mead Valley Wellness Center. Funding will provide
partial funding for the project staff (LVN and Medical Assistant)
for this new program, which is projected to begin September
1. The LVN will be responsible for coordination and oversight
of the Wellness Centers activities.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES RECIEVES $16,077 to
expand to the Perris Region through a newly established Family
Resource Center.
OPERATION SAFEHOUSE RECEIVES $10,000 for
a Transitional Living Program for older youths ages 18-21,
specifically former runaways, homeless or those aging out
of foster care or other institutional care. "The grant
we received from United Way of the Inland Valleys provides
much needed funding in helping us to proactively impact youths
ages 18-21," said Kathy McAdara, Executive Director of
Operation Safehouse.
MFI RECOVERY CENTER RECEIVES $9,000 for
the implementation of weekly classes and counseling sessions
for 100 at-risk youth at Beaumont High School. The expansion
of this program targets the Pass Area.
YMCA RECEIVES $7,302 for their UPLIFT
(Unleashing Positive Lifestyle Improvements for Teens) Program.
This program annually involves 12-24 Jurupa area teens, ages
13-17, who will participate in a series of training events,
service learning projects, leadership development, and civic
awareness tasks. The goal is to prepare students for future
leadership.
RIVERSIDE HOSPICE RECEIVES $5,042 for
The Companion Connection Program to provide free companion
services for frail and isolated elders. Trained, caring volunteers
will help with the demands of daily life, transportation to
medical appointments, church and social activities, and shopping
as well as offer friendship and emotional support.
LATINO MENTOR PROGRAM, INC. RECEIVES $5,000
for the Counseling/Tutorial Mentoring Program which targets
Latino high school students who attend Rubidoux High School
in the Jurupa USD.
QUAIL VALLEY HEALTH COMMUNITIES RECEIVES
$5,000 for Project Lift Resource Center targeting
at-risk children and youth living in Quail Valley, which is
located between Perris and Canyon Lake. This program will
provide services five-days a week, assisting school-age children
and youth with tutoring, mentoring, health and nutrition,
education, recreation, and a computer lab.
INLAND EMPIRE LATINO LAWYERS ASSOCIATION
RECEIVES $3,000 to provide partial funding for a program
to educate teen parents about their parental legal rights
as teen parents as well as accompany them during court proceedings.
The funding is targeted to the Perris region.
United Way of the Inland Valleys has been serving
residents of Western Riverside County through programs and
services provided by local community agencies and organizations
since 1931.
