UNITED WAY PACESETTER COMPANIES KICKOFF FOR 2002

Riverside, California (September 10, 2002) — The 2002 United Way Pacesetter Companies are off and running! Susie Leivas-Sturner, Pacesetter Chair, announced a $593,000 Pacesetter goal, a 10% increase over the prior year.

"We are so excited about this year’s goal," said Leivas-Sturner. "The Pacesetter Companies started a great campaign that supports human and health care programs and services in Western Riverside County."

The Pacesetter Kickoff was held at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Riverside on Friday, September 6, 2002.

Eliza Danielly-Woolfolk from Alternatives to Domestic Violence delivered a compelling message to coordinators, CEOs, and volunteers about the programs and services her agency offers with the funds from United Way of the Inland Valleys.

Donna Fults and Dave Poling from Guidant Corporation presented a $50,000 corporate check from the United Way/Guidant golf tournament to Debbi Huffman Guthrie, Board of Directors Chair, Susie Leivas-Sturner, Pacesetter Chair, and Ray Humphrey, President of United Way of the Inland Valleys. Bill Nietschmann from Bank of America also presented a $20,000 corporate check to United Way of the Inland Valleys.

The Pacesetter Companies shared ideas, good news, and goals for their campaigns. Kim Laliberte, coordinator for Roy O. Huffman Roof Company, announced their campaign finished at a 20% increase over last year. Coordinators from Jaime Zoeller from Wal-Mart, Perris and Cecilia Saldana from Flowserve shared exciting news about their campaigns.

The criteria for being a Pacesetter company is to set a goal of 10% or more over prior giving, run the campaign in September, and be prepared to report at the General Kickoff Thursday, October 3, 5:30 PM, at Riverside County’s Credit Union.

The 2002 Pacesetter Companies are: Flowserve Corporation, Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce, Guidant Corporation, Hudson RCI, Inland Empire National Bank, McGladrey & Pullen (RSM), Provident Bank, Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center, Riverside County's Credit Union, Riverside Employees Credit Union, Riverside Medical Clinic, Roy O. Huffman Roof Company, Stronghold Engineering, Southwest Healthcare Systems, Thompson & Colegate, THORCalifornia, United Way of the Inland Valleys, Wal-Mart, Lake Elsinore, Wal-Mart, Murrieta, Wal-Mart, Riverside, Wal-Mart, Moreno Valley, and Wal-Mart, Perris.
