UNITED WAY OF THE INLAND VALLEYS RECEIVES $29,620 FROM THE UPS FOUNDATION

Riverside, California (April 5, 2002) — The United Way of the Inland Valleys (UWIV) recently received a $29,620 contribution from the UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of United Parcel Service (UPS). The contribution was made through The Foundation’s UPS/United Way Corporate Contribution Program, an initiative in which the company contributes funds to United Way organizations in cities nationwide on behalf of UPS employees to help strengthen local communities.

"Funds from the UPS Foundation have helped us to continue our mission of providing resources to meet the needs of residents in Western Riverside County," said Raymond Humphrey, President and CEO of UWIV. "This contribution will provide unrestricted support to local United Way Member agencies dedicated to assisting people in need."

The contribution to United Way is one of many UPS has made in 2002 through its partnership with United Way. Nationwide, UPS awarded $9.3 million in corporate contributions. In addition, UPS employees contributed $42.8 million, bringing this year’s company-wide United Way campaign to $52.1 million, a 10 percent increase over last year. This year marks the first time in United Way history that a corporation has exceeded $50 million in donations to the annual campaign. UPS has been the number one contributor to United Ways across the country for the past three years.

UPS established its partnership with United Way in 1982. Since then, the company’s employee corporate contribution initiatives have contributed more than $530 million to help aid communities in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. In 1987, UPS was presented United Way of America’s Spirit of America award.

"UPS shares United Way’s vision of building stronger communities by supporting local nonprofit organizations," said Evern Cooper, president of The UPS Foundation and vice president of UPS corporate relations. "For the past 20 years, our employees have donated generously to United Way campaigns and spent countless volunteer hours working to improve the lives of others. We are proud to support the ongoing efforts of United Way."

The UPS Foundation is committed to making a difference through focused funding programs in the areas of human welfare, education and volunteerism. Founded in 1951 and based in Atlanta, Georgia, The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its support will clearly impact social issues.
