VOLUNTEER DIVERSITY PROGRAM GRADUATION

March 25, 2002 (Riverside, California)–Riverside Community Hospital hosted the seventh annual Blueprint for Volunteer Diversity graduation ceremony on Wednesday, March 27, 2002.

The Blueprint Program identifies, trains and supports members of ethnic, racial and other underrepresented groups to become effective, knowledgeable members of nonprofit boards and public-sector commissions. The Program also prepares organizations to successfully involve these newly trained volunteers.

Founded by Mayor Ronald Loveridge, City of Riverside, Telesis Foundation, and United Way of the Inland Valleys, this year’s program was sponsored by Bank of America Foundation, Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, Kiwanis Club of Uptown Riverside, Riverside County’s Credit Union and The Gas Company.

Riverside’s Mayor Loveridge said, "Part of Riverside’s greatness is the diversity of its citizens. Our commitment must be to provide the opportunity for all citizens to be involved with the governance of their community." Jose Marquez Program Officer with The California Endowment was the keynote speaker delivering a timely message on the difference one person can make through their involvement in their local community.

Kathleen Gonzales, an Assistant Attorney for the City of Riverside and Viola Lindsey, Assistant Professor with Loma Linda University, Co-Chairs for the Blueprint for Volunteer Diversity Planning Committee presided over the ceremony. "I want to live in a community where people see a need, they roll up their sleeves, they get involved, and they make a difference" said Lindsey, a graduate of the first Blueprint for Volunteer Diversity Class of 1995.
