The Children's Center
Boy Scouts of America

Nickolas and Patrick were born prematurely, and when they finally came home, the familys joy was marred because Patrick had cerebral palsy.

"The Childrens Center has been wonderful," Silvia says. "The first teacher came to our house, and I grew to love her very much."

When the twins initially went to the Center, Silvia hated the separation. But she soon realized it was good for her as well as the boys. The Childrens Center provided Silvia with parenting education, understanding and friendship.

One sunny morning recently, Patrick rushed off to the left in his walker and Nickolas ran to the right. As Silvia decided which twin to chase first she said, "I thank The Childrens Center for being there for me and other parents of children with disabilities. The center has been a life saver for many people."

Eddie is one excited kid. For the first time in his life, hes going to Boy Scout camp, and for Eddie, camp is more than just a stepping stone to independence; its a miracle.

Eddie was born with spina bifida, a condition that confines him to a wheelchair. To make matters worse Eddies dad, unable to cope with the stress at home, walked out on his family three years ago. And Eddie hasnt seen him since.

Life looked bleak before an adult friend introduced Eddie to the Boy Scouts of America. Moreno Valleys Troop 92 accepted Eddie with open arms. Now Eddie enjoys lots of activities, but most of all he likes the feeling of being one of the guys at troop meetings.

"When I grow up, I can be a dispatcher, or a computer expert or a forensic investigator," Eddie says. "Because of Boy Scouts, I know that there are lots of opportunities out there, even though Im in a wheelchair."
