UNITED WAY CALL TO ACTION
We Need to Recruit One Million Volunteer Readers, Tutors & Mentors

The Call to Action is in partnership with First Lady Michelle Obama's vision to recruit ONE MILLION VOLUNTEERS to read, mentor, and tutor children over the next three years. The purpose of the mission is to reduce high school dropout rates and encourage children to pursue the path towards higher education. But to reach this ambitious goal, we need your support...

Want to make a difference?
Want to help decide who receives United Way funds?

Volunteers are needed to serve on Community Review Teams (CRT) to evaluate funding requests from our non-profit member agencies.

The process is fun, interesting, and important. We need a wide variety of volunteers, from CEOs to college students, retirees, homemakers, donors, etc. to assure accountability for our donors’ contributions.

YOUR PARTICIPATION IS NEEDED. YOUR OPINION MATTERS.

TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately 12-15 hours spread over six weeks from March thru mid April.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Volunteers are placed in teams of 6 to 10 people who choose the same time frame for their service: mornings, afternoons or evenings.  Each team will visit 3 to 4 non-profit agencies between March 19 and April 20, 2012.  Teams will consist of a volunteer chairperson, a financial reviewer, both seasoned and new volunteers, and a United Way staff member to clarify funding policies.

ORIENTATION MEETING: This MANDATORY meeting will provide volunteers with the knowledge and training to feel comfortable in this process. Dinner will be provided and team formations will be finalized. Volunteers need only to bring their calendars to determine the most convenient dates for the agency visits.
